Skydiving Drop Zone
Skydiving is surely one of the most adrenalin pumping extreme sport. It puts anyone to the edge
of life and constantly challenges one’s limitations. Skydiving is more than a physical game, above all it is a
mental sport that tests one’s toughness and courage. For those who have a weak heart, they can’t live by the saying
“no guts no glory, or so they say.
To those who have been frequent jumpers or skydivers, the coined words “skydiving drop
zone” are not alien to them; in fact they live with them. These are their everyday mantra, a spell that
they constantly chant as if to ward off evil spirits that might threaten to spoil their jumps.
To those who are not familiar with the words, what they might recall in mind is the movie of
Wesley Snipes in 1994 which was entitled “Drop Zone”, a film that closely refer to the lives in skydiving.
Skydiving Drop Zone actually refers to the area both on earth and skies including the imaginary lines connecting
them, where skydivers prepare themselves form the ground boarding the airplane up to the air above where the plane
momentarily suspending itself while the divers are preparing to jump.
The area up in the air where skydivers perform some daredevil acts and risky stunts is [art of
he skydiving drop zone, which the skydiving schools have been licensed to use. Most skydiving drop zones are
usually near the airports, with their hangars and their planes are all maintained. Some Skydiving drop zones are
near military flying fields.
It is no wonder that they skydiving centers are proximate to these areas because of the apparent
need of these centers to use wider space and that the military was one of the few organizations to have used and
benefited the science and art of skydiving. It must be remembered that during both WW II, both the Allied forces
and the Axis group & I had utilized a battalion of paratroopers. They must have their own designated drop zones
at those times.
Skydiving drop zones could also refer to the skydiving centers or schools where would-be and
seasoned divers trained. These centers are better known as just drop zones. Drop zones are all spread out around
the world. Where there is a passionate skydiver there will always be a drop zone to cater to anyone’s hunger for
deadly adventure.
The United States Parachute Association (www.uspa.org) have a
long list of drop zones located anywhere in the U.S. while Dropzone.com (www.dropzone.com) also have a directory of drop zones situated anywhere in the
world.
The next time you hear about drop zones don’t be confused because it only means two things: the
school and the space. However both only refer to the same thing and that is skydiving.
