The miniature game of lawn tennis that we now know as table tennis has sure come a long way from
its modest beginnings. Today, it boasts itself as the third most popular sport in terms of regular participatory
count, along with volleyball and basketball respectively. Due to this sport’s worldwide phenomenon, along with the
unparalleled popularity of video games, the rockstar table tennis was born.
Rockstar Table Tennis is a simulation video game of table tennis owned by
Rockstar Games. The video game was initially released for public use on May 26, 2006 for the popular gaming console
Xbox 360. However, recently, on July of 2007, Rockstar Table Tennis had another version that is compatible with
Nintendo’s Wii game console, which is still in schedule to be released in September of 2007.
Game Overview
Rockstar table tennis is considered as the most realistic simulation of the well-know Olympic
sport, table tennis. The video game is played just how they play it in the real word, having 2 players hit the ball
back and forth, preferably in a way that their opponent would not be able to reach or return the pass confidently.
The game also offers various spinning maneuvers, one of which in the real world is a difficult pass to predict.
Only in rare circumstances would a spinning ball be hit by your opponent. The game also features another popular
enhancement called the focus shot, where in the game suddenly goes into slow motion for the players to hit the ball
more accurately.
A lot of game critiques have recognized the game for its simplicity as well as its graphics.
Most of the Rockstar table tennis’ reviews scored 80-90 percent in overall game play. The game is also known for
several unlockable features that increase the life span in a single player game. However, along with the Rockstar
table tennis’ simplicity, are a growing number of complexities. In fact, the game requires 100, 200, or sometimes
even more rally hits that features multiple strategies all throughout. Some reviews post that the single player
lack depth in the game play, their multiplayer games were praised because it allows tournament play for up to 12
players.
Overall, the Rockstar Table Tennis game has been receiving outweighed compliments from a lot of
video game and table tennis aficionados. It is even one of the few sports video games that were the most
awaited.
