English Table Tennis
Association
The Premier English Table Tennis Association
If the USATT is the governing body of the game of table tennis in America, then its English
counterpart is actually the ETTA, or the English Table Tennis Association. The English Table Tennis Association is
the premier body when it comes to anything and everything pertaining to table tennis that goes on in England.
The English Table Tennis Association actually handles a lot about the sport in
England. For starters, it handles the representation of its table tennis teams in whatever table tennis tournament
there may be. This is actually vital, especially when a particular English team is representing the state at an
international meet. The English Table Tennis Association is also responsible for coordinating with the big names in
the arena of table tennis, just to make sure that a certain tournament goes smoothly for everyone involved.
Promotion and marketing are also part of the job specifications of the English Table Tennis Association. The body
handles all the press relations needed, to promote whatever tournament there may be right now. Also, the ETTA
recognizes the need to develop interest in the game of table tennis, especially in students. This is precisely why
the English Table Tennis Association is affiliated with the ESTTA, or the English Schools Table Tennis Association,
and the BTTAD, or the British Table Tennis Association for People with Disabilities.
The English Table Tennis Association has a National Council, which is the primary body that
makes policies pertaining to the game of table tennis. This council is made up of the national councilors, or the
representatives of every County Association that’s available, and members of the Management Committee as well. The
members of the National Council meet quarterly in a year.
The Management Committee of the English Table Tennis Association handles the daily affairs, in
accordance with the policies that have been laid out by the National Council itself. There are actually three
elected officers, as well as Heads of Departments. The three elected officers are the Chairman, the Deputy
Chairman, and the Treasurer. The Heads handle the following departments: administration, competitions, marketing,
development, teaching and training, public relations, finance and selection.
There are actually three types of affiliations in the English Table Tennis Association. The
first is through team membership that is playing in an affiliated local league. The second is through a direct
affiliation to ETTA. The third is through organizations that are of good standing. Whatever the type of membership,
ETTA is sure to have funds coming from these affiliations for its purposes.
