Snorkeling in Jamaica

The indigenous Arawakan- speaking Taino settlers named this place “Xaymaca” which means the “land of springs”. It is 240 kilometers in length and 85 kilometers in width that is situated in the Carribean Sea. The geographical location itself need not to be expounded why a lot are a left dazzled when snorkeling in Jamaica.

It has a tropical climate with both hot and humid weather albeit, inland regions have a it more temperate. Some of the regions found on the southern coast such as Liguanea Plain and Pedro Plains are relatively dry with rain- shadow areas like the rainforests.

Montenego Bay is definitely the perfect spot for snorkeling in Jamaica while the Doctor’s Cave Beach features one of the most accessible areas. For those who are brave enough, head straight to the channel to discover the Coyoba, Seaworld and Royal Reefs. Each of those are sated with wildlife such as the barjacks, blue- brown chromis, yellow- headed wrasses and spotlight parrotfish. Just make sure that you have an expert with you because it is getting deep and current are rough.

Here are handy tips for those who wish to go snorkeling in Jamaica:

* Be very conscious of the currents and keep watch at all times of where you are heading. It will not be very easy to head quickly to the shore when you are too far away while snorkeling in Jamaica.

* Do not bring any food for feeding with you. There is really a possibility that they will envelope you to the extent that you might not take it and something might happen. This is just to avoid any kind of accidents because it will end up spoiling your vacation.

* Never walk or stand on a coral reef. Those have been protected with utmost care. Tread carefully as well on shallow waters because there might be sea urchins. It would be wise to wear slippers or swimming shoes if you are really serious in going snorkeling in Jamaica.

* Put away all your accessories. Don’t you know that Caribbean fish, especially barracudas, are drawn by shiny objects? When they can spot you wearing one, you seem like a silver fish which is their natural prey. You don’t want to attacked, do you?

* Sharks are rare to find and those that can be spotted are usually passive. When you go snorkeling in Jamaica and they are just around the corner, keep calm and if necessary, move slowly out of the water. You can also remain stiff as you wait for them to vanish.

Snorkeling in Jamaica offers a unique aquatic experience especially for those who are water enthusiasts. You will get to explore the Carribean marine habitat at its very best.
