Canaan Valley

This valley sparked interest in the potential of skiing destination in West Virginia, so it seems only right to begin our list with the Canaan Valley.

The Canaan Valley State Park has exemplary slopes for skiing. Located conveniently directly next door to the Timberline, another popular West Virginia skiing resort, Canaan Valley has a number of condominiums and cabins available for visitors. Add to that the wonderful gourmet restaurants, specialty shops, a park, national forest - all of this surrounds the entire valley - every location adds to the excellent winter fun of West Virginia.

Timberline Ski Resort

One of the dominating ski resorts in West Virginia is the Timberline Ski Resort which is considered the centerpiece of Canaan Valley with slopes for all ski levels and a choice of 36 downhill ski slopes. In addition, they provide many options for enjoying a vacation in West Virginia including sledding areas, tubing areas, restaurants, conference facilities and a diverse variety of clubs.

Cross-country skiing is also available along 17 kilometers of ski trails.

Snowshoe Mountain

Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort is viewed as an "upside-down-ski resort" because instead of being at the base of slopes, resort villages are up at the top. As a result, Snowshoe Mountain offers exciting West Virginia skiing all year around on the state's second tallest peak.

Elk River Touring Center

On the southern face of Snowshoe Mountain is the Elk River with 35 kilometers of cross-country, multi-season West Virginia skiing. Elk River Tour Center is one of the most popular skiing destinations in West Virginia. Accommodations are available with a choice between houses, luxurious condominiums, cabins or slopeside huts.

In addition to West Virginia skiing, Elk River Tour Center also has snowboarding, hunting, fishing, camping and biking.

Several more popular ski resorts are scattered around West Virginia from which you can choose when planning the perfect ski vacation. While a wonderful getaway or full family vacation stop doesn't depend entirely on popularity, it's more about the accommodations that fit you and your family's needs.
