Snow Skiing Apparel
Of course, you want to look good on the slopes, but there's a lot more to skiing apparel than
just fashion. The most important function your ski apparel can do for you is to protect you from the weather
and keep you warm and safe as you traverse the slopes.
When you shop for snow skiing apparel, you should ask yourself the following
questions:
· Do you perspire a lot during exercise?
· Where are you going to go on your next ski trip? Climate in general makes a
difference, even though you're going to be on snowy slopes no matter where you are.
· How much do you want to spend for your skiing apparel?
· Do want to use your snow skiing apparel for things other than just skiing?
After you've asked yourself these questions, next, you should consider the following: what
layers of clothing will you be wearing? Usually, you have three. These are the base layer, the
insulating layer, and the element layer. You'll need all three layers in order to be protected from harsh
skiing weather.
The base layer
This layer is actually most important for the first question asked above, whether or not you perspire
a lot when you exercise. If you do, then you need a base layer that will be able to wick moisture away from
your body very quickly. This is so you don't get chilled. The ideal material for this is polypropylene
and not cotton. Cotton absorbs moisture and therefore it means that moisture stays with you.
Polypropylene wicks away the moisture and leaves you dry and comfortable by comparison.
The insulating layer
The insulating layer is meant to keep you warm despite the cold weather you're in. As with the
base layer, it works to keep you warm when you're out in very cold weather. This layer should keep heat in
and let moisture out. The best example for this is fleece, which is actually another form of
polypropylene.
The element layer
This layer actually provides little warmth and insulation, but it keeps you dry and windproof.
Usually, this is comprised of a shell jacket with several technical features, including a snow cuff, powder skirt,
hood, and lots of pockets, which can be very practical when you're outdoors.
When you're choosing your ski apparel, make sure you choose what's best for you. The shell
jacket will offer you the best protection for the price that you can afford, will keep you dry and also help
shelter you from the wind, so that your other layers can do their jobs as well.
