Skiing Holiday
If you're an avid skier, no doubt your dream vacation includes some skiing. However, if
you're a beginner and you still want to include skiing in your vacation, you'll need some basic pointers to
start.
Equipment
Of course, you need the proper ski equipment in order to get the most out of your skiing holiday and
avoid injury. Which is right for you? Skis and boots need to especially fit you and your skiing
abilities. If you're a beginner and are looking for gear, make sure you let the shop staff know that.
They can help you pick out equipment especially suited for you. If you're an expert, no problem.
Equipment is available for you, too, and it's also likely that you have a bit more knowledge when you're picking
out your equipment in terms of what fits you best. The boats must fit comfortably and properly. If they
don't, make sure you return them and get ones that do.
Learn to walk again
Yes, that's right; you need to learn how to walk in your ski boots. Because they are ski boots,
they're particularly geared for skiing. However, you need to walk on them because they're especially
constructed to walk on snowy slopes. You shouldn't walk on them on floors or other flat surfaces.
However, if you must, undo the upper clips around your ankles so that your feet can stay flat on the ground.
Wear a helmet
As with most sports, skiing, too, requires the proper headgear. Even if it might not be
considered "cool" all the time, safety is first. Just like biking or other sports where head injuries are
common, your safety and health is far more important than foolhardy "bravery." Ski helmets are particularly
geared to be lightweight and comfortable, and not to interfere with your skiing experience. In fact, most ski
resorts require that children wear helmets, and to be good models, adults should, too.
Wear sunscreen and protective sun gear
Even though it's going to be cold and snowy, you're just as prone to sunburn on the slopes as you are
on the beach. In fact, the rays that bounce off the snow are even more intense than those you find on the
beach, and because it's cold, you're not going to get overheated to tell you that you're being burned.
Therefore, when you ski, wear sunscreen and protective eye gear, such as sunglasses or goggles. Because sun
damage on the slopes can be even more severe than that on the beach, there are sunscreens specially formulated for
wear on the slopes, and you might want to consider one of these.
