North Carolina Skiing

That might surprise you to know that the mild climate of North Carolina does in fact support skiing.  In fact, the highest mountains in the East are found there, the Appalachian Mountains.  These are the highest peaks in the Rockies and offer skiers great skiing in North Carolina.  Cold temperature, breathtaking scenery, and friendly folks also increase the enjoyment of the experience.

With North Carolina skiing, you can find something for everyone, whether you're a beginner or the most advanced skier possible.  There are absolutely dozens of ski resorts available everywhere, so no matter what your price and budget, you can find something for you.  Below are some of the best places to go skiing in North Carolina.

Appalachian Ski Mtn

Appalachian Ski Mountain is between Blowing Rock and Boone.  It has at least 25 acres of immaculate snow stretches for the most dedicated skier.  The mountain itself is 4000 feet above sea level and has a vertical drop of 365 feet, so that it's one heck of a downhill ride for the most advanced.  It has nine slopes with trails for beginners and experts, too.  It also has a double chair, two quad chairs and a surface lift.

Sapphire Valley Ski Area

Sapphire Valley ski area is in Sapphire, North Carolina.  This 5700-acre four-season resort has two ski trails, both with new quad lifts.  A multilane tube hill is also available for those with interests that are bit tamer.

Sapphire Valley ski resort is about a 50-mile drive from Asheville Regional Airport.  From Charlotte, North Carolina, the drive is about 135 miles.

Ski Beech

As the highest ski resort in eastern North America, Ski Beech is 5506 feet above sea level and is located on Beech Mountain.  It offers nine lifts and 15 trails accompanying breathtaking scenery for the ultimate ski experience.  From Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Ski Beech is about a 93-mile drive.

These are just a few choices, with many other places available for skiing in North Carolina as well.  In addition, because it's not popularly known as a ski haven, you're likely to find good skiing at reasonable prices.  Some other places to check out include Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, Sugar Mountain Resort, and Cataloochee Ski Area.
