Mount Hood is located in the northern part of Oregon and is approximately 65 east of Portland. It is also the highest mountain in the state with its peak being more that 11,000 feet high. Mount Hood is actually a dormant volcano.

If you are looking for a great winter vacation then including Mount Hood skiing will not disappoint. You can find over 65 runs that have eight lifts to them. There is over 2,000 acres to ski and Mount Hood boast a vertical rise of 2,777 feet. You can also expect them to receive over 400 inches of snow each year. If you are beginning skier you will be glad to know that they have made 15% of the trails skiable for you and if you are an expert skier they offer the same amount of trails especially for you. Then you have 50% of the trails that are designed for the intermediate skiers and the remaining 20% are for the advanced skier. The skiing season for Mount Hood begins in Mid-November and runs through May.

If you want to learn more about Mount Hood skiing then visit the Cascade Ski Club. Opening in the 1920's the Cascade Ski Club is what helped put Mount Hood on the map as a premier winter destination. Their lodge is currently on the Government Camp located in Mount Hood. Being a member of the club gives you several benefits like discounts on your meals, lodging accommodations and parking, and you will no longer need to make reservations.

Mount Hood skiing includes six different skiing areas for you to choose from. They include Mt. Hood Meadows, Summit, Timberline, Ski Bowl, Cooper Spur, and Snow Bunny. In Oregon Mount Hood skiing is rated so highly because they have excellent snow conditions and they have first class resorts and skiing camps.

For the most diverse skiing experience try Mt. Hood Meadows, they also have the driest snow in the Northwest. The Summit holds the distinctions as the oldest skiing area in the Pacific Norwest. The only place in the country with ski lift service with year round skiing can be found at Timberline. Ski Bowl is the largest ski area in the United States with night time skiing.

Ninety minutes from Portland you'll find Cooper Spur, this resort is family oriented and can accommodate large groups and it also includes a ski school and a tubing center. The Snow Bunny area is the smallest and is especially good for children and families. You can find skiing lessons and equipment rentals at any of the Mount Hood skiing areas.
