Jet Skiing – Tips on Purchasing a Jet Ski and A Few Jet Skiing Rules
One popular water sport is jet skiing. The term "jet ski" is actually the brand name of
Kawasaki's personal watercraft (PWC). It however has turned into a general description for any type of PWC.
When you are deciding to purchase a jet ski there are some things you should consider so that
you get the most out of your jet skiing experience. They first thing to determine is what size Jet Ski you need.
Most jet skis have the possibility of carrying from one to four people. You will need to decide which one fits your
needs. The larger the Jet Ski you purchase the larger the engine, which means the faster you will be able to
travel.
Another thing to consider is the design of the hull; this will also impact the performance of
your jet ski. The shorter and narrower the hulls are on a personal watercraft the easier they are to maneuver but
the novice may find it more difficult because they are less stable. Whereas the wide and longer hull will give your
more stability but it will be harder to maneuver.
For added safety while jet skiing look for a Jet Ski equipped with lanyard. Most of the newer
models already have this as a standard feature. If you are purchasing a used Jet Ski make sure to ask if lanyard is
on it. Lanyard is a safety mechanism that will automatically shut the Jet Ski off should you fall off or if it
overturns.
Jet skis come in several types. You have a one-person craft that come in two types- a solo craft
and a sport craft. The sport craft is different from the solo craft because it has no seating. You must stand up
while riding it, that is why it is also referred to as the "stand-up." Generally speaking the solo craft is more
difficult to control for most riders but for heavier riders the sport craft can be unstable and harder to
control.
If you want to enjoy your jet skiing with another rider the two-seater is the way to go. It does
tend to be a little slower but it is made to be more stable. If you want to be able to enjoy the water with family
and friends there is always the three and four-seater. They offer great stability to enjoy your jet skiing
together.
When considering purchasing a Jet Ski make sure you take into account a trailer and storage
area. You need to make sure that you can properly transport the Jet Ski and that you have plenty of available space
to store them. Before you go out jet skiing make sure that you insure your water craft.
Jet skis are designed to go fast, but that does not mean that you need to be reckless. There are
some simple common courteous rules that every jet skier should obey. For example if there is an oncoming boat or
vessel stay to the right. Make sure you are always aware of your surroundings. Follow all speed limit signs and
always wear your safety goggles and life jacket. By purchasing the correct Jet Ski for your needs and following a
few common courtesy you can enjoy you jet skiing experience to the fullest.
