Verbal Self-defense
Physical and Verbal Self-defense in a Heated Situation
Almost daily or hourly, people face different situations. There are situations that are beyond
from their expectations or perceptions. They can be good or bad. But as they say, people have to expect for the
good and prepare for the worst.
People take defensive actions when they confront the situations. Being in control of oneself is
most probably among the best defenses one can take over the situations. Aside from managing the situations, people
should also learn the methods of self-defense. Usually, when people face challenges such as physical threats,
physical self-defense is the first instinct that is applied.
People want to be safe and secure. Controlling over the situation cannot be realized when people
are less equipped with best defenses.
When direct physical threats are involved, normally, people apply the martial art techniques
they learn. Meanwhile, other people may resort to using weapons as forms of defenses. This can usually be applied
in war-torn or crime-prone areas.
Apart from physical defenses, people should also learn how to face controllable situations that involve verbal
arguments or real-life situations.
Verbal self-defense is what people likely do to counter their deemed
antagonists. It can be in a form of hatred remarks or replies aimed at piecing the emotion of the opposing party.
Or it can be in the form of understanding and knowing the right and wrong.
Verbal self-defense more likely happens in oral argument. There is an interaction between two or parties normally
with different standing or with opposing views. A debate is an example of a formal situation in which verbal
self-defense can be applied.
Each party must have the knowledge on the topics they tackle. In less formal situations, debate can also occur.
However, it is dealt with explanations for the benefit or information of the opposing party.
In day-to-day situations, people have interactions with their families, friends or other people
they know or even strangers. Arguments normally happen everywhere when different views do not meet or just plain
stupid. People have different reactions. Nevertheless, people can strategize as they deal their arguments
with other people.
Verbal self-defense is more on psychological aspect rather than physical. Thus, understanding
over the situation can be a good form of defense. Although people want to utter back when they receive undesirable
remarks, some people do not want to risk the relationship with other people just because of opposite
views.
Verbal self-defense can be learned similar to physical self-defense. It would take good judgment
and application of good virtues for verbal self-defense to work. It may take a counselor or a psychologist to
obtain the principles of verbal self-defense. Some books have this kind of topic. The internet contains the sites
with articles about verbal self-defense.
