Self-Defense Moves: How Complex or Simple Are They?

The primary reason most people have when deciding to be trained in martial art classes is to learn the self-defense moves. Martial art is not only about learning the combat skills in order to pick a fight or to land in a competition. Most people want to register in martial art classes to get acquainted with the self-defense moves and to practice them.

Self-defense moves can be simple or complicated. Every type of martial arts has the integration of self-defense moves and techniques. The hard-type of martial arts such judo, karate and tae kwon do can have complex self-defense moves that would require one to practice them repeatedly in order to attain the correct moves. For beginners, the self-defense moves may be done step-by-step. Mastery of the self-defense moves might be required in self-defense class.  

Many individuals are eager to learn martial arts merely for self-defense moves. Beginners in martial arts training normally have to go through learning the self-defense moves before proceeding to the more advance phases in martial arts. White-belters or those beginning to take martial arts training are taught with simple self-defense moves such wristlock, armbar and front bearhug.

The basic self-defense moves for adults and children can be similar or different. Some of the fundamental self-defense moves for adults may not be good to be taught and be applied for children. However, adults can learn the self-defense moves for children.

Some types of martial arts such as jiu jitsu and kung fu have soft styles of self-defense moves. They may be simple to learn and apply in practice.

Regardless of the martial art types, self-defense moves must be practiced diligently. There can be moves that can be practiced in short duration and can be very effective for applying them in street self-defense. It is worth to know which type of martial art is the right to learn and which self-defense moves can be learned with mastery.

The Internet can provide the opportunities and guides for individuals who want to learn a few basic self-defense moves in martial arts. There is a lot of information about self-defense techniques and moves on the internet that one can check out.

One can learn the self-defense moves from a book or a video. However, even if the instructions are on place, the self-defense moves will not be effective if they are not practiced. As with any endeavors, hard training would be required in order to attain mastery in self-defense moves.
