One should get through a self-defense class before doing the right moves in martial arts. Although there are options a man can take to learn self-defense and the art of combat techniques, a self-defense class may be the best option.

Individuals can learn one or more types of martial arts in a self-defense class. However, it depends on the capacity of the instructor as well his expertise. One can learn the self-defense moves of Aikido in one self-defense class and can progress to more techniques of another martial art type.

There are several types of martial arts. Thus, it would pay off if one knows what kind of martial art he is taking in a self-defense class.

The Oriental types of martial arts are undoubtedly the most popular in the world. One can learn the self-defense moves and combat techniques of karate, Aikido, Judo and Tae Kwon Do. Judo, Aikido and karate originated in Japan while Tae Kwon Do comes from Korea. Judo and Tae-Kwon-do have become popular as Olympic Sports.

Other martial art types in which one can enroll in self-defense class are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wu Shu. Wu Shu is known a Chine martial art while Jiu Jitsu is a derivation from Japanese martial arts brought to Brazil and became popular in the Western world.

Jeet Kune Do, another martial art, is a famous for one for it was developed by a famous martial artist and Hong Kong-Hollywood actor Bruce Lee. A self-defense class that teaches this type of martial art can also be found. In America, Jeet Kune Do is taught in numerous martial art academies in California.

If wanting to learn self-defense class involving weapons, one may enroll in self-defense course with Filipino Martial Arts. Eskrima is known for knife and stick fighting. One can also learn the self-defense and combat moves using bare hands in this martial art.

There are lots of martial arts that one can learn in self-defense class. Some self-defense classes teach boxing and other Oriental martial art systems.

A self-defense class can be for anyone. There are self-defense classes for women as well as for kids.  Checking for the availability of self-defense class can be made using the Internet. One can also ask the police department for self-defense class proximate to the vicinity residing.   It is also possible to find a self-defense school on a yellow page or telephone directory.
