Mountain Biking Dirt Jumps

Build Your Own Mountain Biking Dirt Jumps

Mountain biking dirt jumps are often spotted from the backyards of mountain biking enthusiasts, and detailed below are some handy tips showing what you will need to know in order to build your own dirt jumps.

First of all you should make sure the location you have chosen for your mountain biking dirt jumps is suitable not only for your biking needs but also to others.   Your jumps should be well out of the way of people who do not share your enthusiasm in this hobby who may be likely to destroy your handy-work if they consider it to be an obstruction.  The site you choose to build on needs to be a good size,  as mountain biking is not a sport where you should be restricted and the bigger the number of   dirt jumps you can set up the more perfect your hobby will be. The ground should be either sloped or flat.  Try to avoid bumpy ground as it is not ideal for dirt jump building. Although many people use stones to build, your jumps would be better made from nice dirt.

So, now you have found the best location for your mountain biking dirt jumps, you will need to have the proper tools to go about building your jumps. Spades and shovels are probably the most popular tools, used for shifting the dirt around.  These come with a choice of long or short handles, to suit the individual.  Forks and pick axes are ideal for loosening particularly hard dirt, and wheelbarrows are used to transport large quantities of dirt from one place to another. Although metal wheelbarrows are more sturdy, the plastic variety is also suitable to undertake the job in hand. A watering can with a sprinkler system outlet is also useful when you need to dampen hard ground prior to digging.  Rakes can be used to move dry leaves and twigs around your mountain biking dirt jumps and brooms are good for sweeping away dust trails. Your drainage system will need something to collect the water and it is advisable to use a bucket for this task.

Once you have most, or better still, all of the items mentioned above, you can start to build your mountain biking dirt jumps.  With safety being the most important of your concerns, make sure you have definite researched specifications from the outset.
