Indoor Lacrosse Rules
Learning About Indoor Lacrosse Rules
Indoor lacrosse rules are very much similar with outdoor lacrosse. Indoor lacrosse rules allow
ten players per team that is composed of three defenders, three midfielders, three attackers and a goalkeeper. The
three attackers are always on the side of the center line near the opponent’s goal while the three defenders and
the goalie should always stay on the side of the center line closest to the home goal.
According to indoor lacrosse rules, at the start of the game one midfielder is
placed in every wing area, an attacker near the opponent’s goal area and a defender and the goalie near the home
goal area. The game normally starts with a draw by placing the ball between the lacrosse sticks of two players.
When the whistle is blown, the two players will battle for ball possession.
The main objective of the game is to score points by shooting the ball into the goal and the
team with the most points will of course win the game. Indoor lacrosse rules allow players to cradle, throw and
shoot the ball but touching the ball is a foul. Only the goalkeeper can touch the ball when it is near the goal
area.
The game is 60 minutes long with four 15-minute quarters with 1 minute intermission every
period. It also has a 10-minute intermission during halftime. Two 5-minute overtimes are given and if the two
overtime periods are finished with the scores tied, the game is declared a draw.
Indoor lacrosse rules have two types of fouls, personal and technical fouls. Personal fouls
include pushing, slashing and tripping. The penalty is temporary ejection from the game for 1 to 3 minutes
depending on the foul committed. Technical fouls include touching the ball, illegal interference, offside and
entering the opponents crease. The penalty for a technical foul is loss of ball possession or a free throw for the
other team getting thrown out of the game without a substitute for 30 seconds. The thrown out player due to
technical foul can return to the game when the opponent scores a goal. However, the player will carry the technical
foul for the entire game. An intentional or flagrant foul due to conduct and unevenness may result to a player’s
ejection from the game then a substitute can enter the game after five minutes.
If the ball goes out of bounds, the team that last touched ball will lose possession. If the
ball goes over the end line due to a shot on goal, the player nearest to the ball will be awarded possession.
