days of ancient Greece to the rough and mud filled tracks of today’s motocross. Motocross is one of the numerous
varieties of motorcycle sport which are held on enclosed tracks with off road environment.
A typical motocross event is usually composed of several heats or races and
most of the motocross events that are held these days require several elements or factors in order to qualify. One
distinct feature of motocross from other types of sports that involves motorcycle aside from mass start is that,
all of the participants (or riders) are lined up next to each other, all of the participants start at the same time
and goes through the track, and the first participant to reach the finish is declared the winner.
The duration of the event varies, depending on several factors. Motocross races are most of the
time, measured in the time elapsed or through a number of laps. Top level events usually are long races; the
duration of the race is usually based on the category ranking of the participants (e.g. amateur, pro, open
category, etc.). Motocross circuits are mostly quite large are incorporated with off road terrain. These off road
terrains are incorporated with man made obstacles such as jumps, hill, steep slopes and turns. Participants of
these motor sport events usually consist of 40 riders.
There are numerous motocross events all over the world, the most prestigious motocross racing event is dominated by
two series, the FIM Grand Prix and the AMA American National Championship. The FIM or the “Fédération
Internationale de Motocyclisme” is the World Championship series while the AMA or the “American Motorcyclist
Association” is an organization that organizes a significant number of motorcycling events in the United
States.
Another variation of motocross sport is freestyle motocross. The distinct difference of this
event is that it does not concentrate on the speed or race; rather it focuses more on the acrobatic ability of the
participant. Riders execute a number of jumps and mid air stunts from 24 to 45 meters in length.
Motocross is considered as one of the most popular sporting event that involves motorcycles.
Participants of these events usually perform death defying jumps, drifting turns and the body movements of the
riders as they try to balance their dirt bikes at high speed. Motocross is an exciting game not just to the
