Crochet Baby Items

Easy-to-Make Crochet Baby Items

So, you know someone who just had a baby! Of course, you would like to give the new mother something that her baby could wear. Instead of buying clothes, why don’t you make them instead?

There are actually so many crochet baby items that you can make yourself. And these crochet baby items are very simple to make. In fact, crochet baby items don’t have to be complicated to make.

One of the easier crochet baby items to make is a sweater. The size hook and yarn to use depend on the size of the sweater you want to make. Whatever the size, the fact remains that a baby sweater is made in 3 parts. These parts are the chest, the sleeves, and the trim. The following is a rundown on how to make the most popular of crochet baby items.

For the chest, start at the neckline, from which you should make 46 chains using your main color yarn. Follow through with a number of half-double crochet stitches from one row to another. The number of rows would depend on how big you want the sweater to be.

For the sleeves, attach your main color yarn to the underarm’s center portion. You do this by slip stitch. For round 1, follow through with half-double crochet to make 19 stitches. Then, double crochet to make 9 stitches. Half-double crochet the last stitch, and then attach thread at the top of the 2nd chain by means of a slip stitch. This ends round 1. Repeat the steps of round 1, to make round 2. For round 3, skip the chain step. Your first stitch should be a slip stitch, for the next 19 stitches. Your next stitch should then be a half-double crochet, for the next 19 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch for the following stitch. For the next rounds, join your half-double crochet stitch to each of the next double crochet stitches. The next stitch should then be a slip stitch. This makes round 4. Repeat the process until you’ve reached 7 rounds. After which, you finish it off, and move on to make the other arm.

For your trim, use your contrast color yarn and attach it to the bottom corner of the sweater by slip stitch. Work through the whole bottom hem. For round 1, do the single crochet stitch, making 3 single crochet stitches in each corner. After which, attach the yarn to the start of the 1st chain by slip stitch. Slip stitch around each stitch to finish off.

If a sweater is not up your alley, there are a number of other crochet baby items you can make. You can make hats, mittens, blouses, skirts and a lot more crochet baby items. Just let creativity take the lead and you will be able to make a lot of crochet baby items in no time at all.
