Backpacking Tent
What better way to escape the toils and troubles of daily urban life than an adventure to the
great outdoors. Take time out to explore, relax and bask in the beauty of nature. It can be a trek through the
forests and lakes or a hike across the mountains and rivers. But usually you need to take along a lot of supplies
and other resources and this can limit maneuverability. So the most popular form of exploration is the backpacking
adventure. The backpacking adventure is a hike, climb, trek or camping trip that may span a day or more. It gets
the name because all the supplies for it are carried in backpacks. An important part of the gear on any backpacking
adventure is the backpacking tent.
The backpacking tent is an evolution the traditional camping tent. Tents have
been utilized by travelers and explorers for many centuries to provide shelter on their endeavors. Unlike the
backpacking tents of today, early tents were made of canvas and the skeletons were made of wood. They were heavy to
take around and difficult to construct. But as time went on and with the discovery of new technology, the tent was
improved and much more maneuverable. With the advent of global war, the usage of the tent became more widespread
with militaries, medical teams and humanitarian agencies all resorting to them to provide make-shift shelters.
Today, the backpacking tent is compact and versatile, and a very important part of a
backpacker’s gear. The backpacking tent now comes in many different forms and sizes with varying functionalities.
The simplest backpacking tent is referred to as the A-tent or ‘pup tent’ and was enough to accommodate one person
only so not many are made now. Then we have the most common backpacking tent, the dome. As the name suggests, the
tent is dome-shaped and can accommodate multiple people and quite easy to set up. The fabric of the tent is made
from polyester and it is supported by metal rods.
Backpacking tent’s come in a range of prices and the price usually depends on the number of
people it accommodates and the manufacturer. More complex backpack tents like the ‘pop-up tent’ which literally
pops out of its packing as a ready to accommodate tent, may cost more. So when choosing a backpacking tent, always
consider how many people it will have to accommodate usually and how much it will be utilized. It is recommended
that you buy a ‘4-seasons’ tent which is the best because it can be used during all four weather seasons. In
all, a backing adventure is a great way to take a break from the hassles of daily life.
