Antique Superman Collectibles

Action Comics #1: The Most Valuable of Antique Superman Collectibles

In 2006 a copy of Action Comics #1 sold for 195,000 US Dollars.

Quite expensive for a comic book.

What makes this particular comic book so expensive is the fact that this particular issue featured the first appearance of a superhero, Superman. Not only in the realm of Antique Superman collectibles, Action Comics #1 stands to be the most valuable comic book there is, as the issue is actually a landmark issue, paving the way for the superhero genre in comic books by featuring the first ever superhero in comics.

Action Comics #1 basically led the whole comic book industry into becoming what it is. These days, superhero themed comic books are no longer the status quo, with other types of comic book genres also dominating the comic book realm.

Released in 1938, the comic book was written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster, the co-creators who made Superman. Published by DC Comics, Action Comics #1 was successfully followed up with other superheroes, with the Green Lantern, and Batman, being the most notable of DC Comics characters. Marvel Comics’ The Avengers, Spider-man, The Fantastic Four, the Uncanny X-Men, successful characters in themselves, basically followed after the most definitive of Antique Superman collectibles, namely Action Comics #1.

Action Comics #1 basically features a 12 page story about Superman. The whole concept behind the “secret identity” was introduced as early as with this issue, as well as the presence of Lois Lane, a major character in the Superman storyline. The issue didn’t exactly portray Superman as how the world has come to know him. He was described as “faster than a speeding locomotive”, and not “faster than a speeding bullet”. He didn’t actually fly, but rather was strong enough to leap over buildings. The whole, “Look up in the sky!” “It’s a bird!” It’s a plane!” It’s Superman!” came after the initial introduction of Superman.

Understandably, antique Superman collectibles are quite valuable. Superman #1 ranks as a high when talking about antique Superman collectibles, as well as the various Superman related merchandise which came after the popularity of the Superman franchise.

Antique Superman collectibles range from Superman outfits, Superman mugs, Superman board games, Superman issues and other Superman related items. Antique Superman collectibles are quite popular, with Action Comics #1 being the most definitive of antique Superman collectibles as well as in the world of comic books.

When talking about antique Superman Collectibles, Action Comics #1 truly stands to be the most valuable around.
